Make a base for the Skeiner from PVC:
You can make a base for your the Reel-Swift-Skeiner from parts bought at Home Depot for about
twenty dollars. Get yourself a rubber mallet at the 99 Cent store and it easily can be taken apart and
put back together, thus saving space when you are not using the base for a reeler. I find this useful
as I live in a small space, yet when I want the reeler, this base provides an excellent sturdy support.
Optional tools that will help, but are not absolutely necessary are a PVC cutter and a small belt sander for sanding down the ends of the PVC pipe parts.
This PVC cutter is $20 at Home Depot, or half that at Harbor Freight Tools.
Note: All parts are 1/2 inch diameter white PVC. Pipe is 1/2 inch, schedule 40
Parts List: 4 each - adapter female to male slip x pipe
2 each - 45% union
6 each - ell slip x slip
4 each - tee slip x slip x slip
2 each - tee slip x slip x pipe thread
2 each - tee snap saddle female pipe*
1 each - 18 inch threaded riser* (*these may be in the plumbing sprinkler dept.)
8 each - 2 foot sections PVC pipe (pre-cut pipe is nicer looking than the 10 foot sections)
Pipe to be cut into the following lengths (cut each long length from a 2 foot section ):
4 ea. - 23" sections
2 ea. - 17" sections
2 ea. - 11 1/2" sections
8 ea. - 1 3/4" sections
2 ea. - 1 1/4" sections
Step 1: Cut the pipe lengths. You can use a hack saw, a hobby scroll saw, a hand miter saw, a band saw etc.. The PVC
cutter is worth investing in. It will save a lot of time. If you have a belt or disc sander, bevel the ends of the pipe
and sand down about 1/2 " on each end for ease of taking base apart and assembling. The black writing on the pipe
can be removed with acetone, or sanded off with a sponge sanding block.
Step 2: Make the threaded assembly. Take 2 adapters, female to male, slip x pipe and 1 ea. 1 1/4" pipe. Connect them
so the threaded parts are facing away from each other:
Then saw off one set of threads:

Repeat for the second threaded assembly.
Step 3: Tap it together with the rubber mallet, saving the threaded assemblies and 1/2" dia. dowel, 19 1/2" long for last. (you can
cut the dowel that came with the Reel-Swift-Skeiner, or buy a new one for about $1.00)

Last of all, put the center dowel through the Reel-Swift-Skeiner, slide on the threaded assemblies on each side of dowel threads
facing out, then stick one end into each of the two threaded tees and screw the threaded assembly into the tee on each side.
And that is it!
You can paint the base using Krylon Fusion for PVC spray paint. If you paint it assembled, it may stick together when you try to disassemble it. If you spray the pieces separately, you will have to re sand the pipe ends to make them fit easily. Don't spray too much paint on the threads and don't spray the inside of the other parts.
