Camel down is sometimes called "poor man's cashmere". It is soft and easy to spin, very well suited for the Takli spindle.
When the camel starts to moult it drops clumps of hair. The Bedouins send someone to the back of the camel train to pick up the
clumps. The down is separated from the hair. Camel cannot be dyed or bleached, hence the term "camel" as a color.
My camel down comes from China (lots of desert there). I have divided it into two 2 oz. packages for ease in spinning two-ply
yarn. Each package is spun onto a spool, then they are plied back onto the Navajo spindle.

A good source of camel down is http://www.littlebarn,com. They also have cashmere, yak and buffalo down.
